Hey! I’m kate rose weiner

My work is rooted in a passion for community-powered publishing and environmental art. As the Founder and Creative Director of independent publisher Loam, I have edited more than 20 publications on issues such as disaster preparedness and climate justice.

I’m driven by a desire to tell artful and accessible stories that nurture community care and inspire environmental advocacy. Over the course of my career, I’ve connected readers across the world to creative resources for collective action.

Through the practices of narrative editing and consent-based storytelling, I collaborate with individuals and organizations to support them in sharing their stories on their terms. I love working one-on-one to edit essays and curate materials that amplify strategies for collective wellbeing and illuminate tools for change.

My editorial praxis is shaped by my many years of working as an environmental educator, writer, and community curator. As an educator, I have co-facilitated workshops on climate storytelling and collective resilience at venues such as The Ruby in San Francisco and Union Hall in Denver. As a writer, I’ve worked extensively with Loam Editor Kailea Loften on publications such as our popular disaster preparedness guide, Compassion in Crisis. And as the 2021 Activist-in-Residence at Boulder Public Library, I curated an immersive art exhibit on wildfire season in collaboration with artist Chelsea Call of Curam.

Although reading and writing is my jam (I’ve always got a stack of five or six books I’m working through), I’m passionate about herbalism, cooking, and hiking with friends. I also run a mobile library and reading room!

Whether you’re looking for a helping hand in crafting an essay for your organization’s online and/or print journal, seeking support in developing an impactful op-ed for submission, or creating your own booklet, I’ve got you.
